Neumann, L.G. (1907) Description of two new species of African ticks. Annals of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology, 1, 115–120.

Type depository: BMNH?: holotype (male)

Type locality: “ Zambie ” but changed to “Zambu ( Congo indépendant)” in Neumann (1911a), while Keirans & Hillyard (2001) named the locality as “Zambi”

Type host: bovine

Comments: Keirans & Hillyard (2001) and Walker et al. (2000) stated that the type depository for this tick was not identified. However, Keirans & Hillyard (2001) listed a male of Rhipicephalus duttoni held in the BMNH as a syntype, although Guglielmone et al. (2014) doubt that this specimen was used to describe Rhipicephalus duttoni . Nevertheless, the data provided by Keirans & Hillyard (2001) agree with those presented by Neumann, who described this species from a single male. Therefore, if the male held in the BMNH is the original specimen used to describe Rhipicephalus duttoni , it should be treated as the holotype, not a syntype of this species. Walker et al. (2000) stated that the type locality is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a statement not confirmed here.
