Type locality: Banat ( Koch 1844). Moritz & Fischer (1981) named Hungary as the type locality, while Estrada-Peña (1990) treated Banat as Romanian

Current status: a synonym of Dermacentor marginatus ( Estrada-Peña 1990) .
