dorriensmithi Turk, 1948, Ixodes
Turk, F.A. (1948) On two new species of tick. Parasitology, 38, 243–246.
Type depositories: TC: syntypes (a female? nymphs? a larva?), BMNH (nymphs and larvae) ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001)
Type locality: Scilly Islands , Great Britain
Type host: Crocidura cassiteridium
Current status: a synonym of Ixodes acuminatus ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001) .
Comments: the developmental stages of specimens deposited in the TC are uncertain. Turk (1948) described this tick from a female, 14 nymphs and a larva collected from six Crocidura cassiteridium , but Keirans & Hillyard (2001) stated that Ixodes dorriensmithi was described from six specimens collected from Crocidura crassiteridium , which contradicts Turk’s (1948) statement above. Additionally, Keirans & Hillyard (2001) listed three larvae as deposited in the BMNH versus the single larva in the original description. Thus, the type data for Ixodes dorriensmithi should be considered provisional.
