Cooley, R.A. (1947) Dermacentor dissimilis , a new species of tick from southern Mexico. American Museum Novitates, 1332, 1–3.
Type depositories: AMNH?: holotype (female) and paratypes (females and a nymph) ; USNPC?: a paratype (female) , USNTC: paratypes (females and a nymph) ( Cooley 1947) , MCZ: paratype (a female)
Type locality: Las Margaritas , 45 km southeast of Comitán, Chiapas, Mexico
Type host: horse
Comments: Keirans & Clifford (1984) listed the holotype as deposited in the USNTC, but Hernández et al. (2011) confirmed that the holotype is held in the AMNH. Salley et al. (1978) did not include type specimens deposited in the USNPC. KLC visited the AMNH in 2024 and the paratype nymph was not found there; however, an unreported paratype (labeled as allotype male) was found.
