Type depositories: BMNH, ZMB: syntypes (males and females) ( Walker et al. 2000)

Type localities: Damaraland , Namibia ?; Transvaal, South Africa?, and southern Massai steppe and Mpapua, Tanzania

Type hosts: Oryx-Antelopes ( Moritz & Fischer 1981)

Comments: Walker et al. (2000, page 33) follow Dönitz (1910) in listing Demararaland ( Namibia), Transvaal ( South Africa), and Massai steppe ( Tanzania) as type localities, but in their map 47 (page 357) the type locality is indicated as being in Tanzania, while Namibia and South Africa are treated as countries where Rhipicephalus near pravus is present, but not bona fide Rhipicephalus pravus . The BMNH and ZMB contain type specimens collected in Tanzania.
