Type locality: Funchal , Madeira Island, Portugal

Type host: phaisan ( Neumann, 1908)

Current status: the name Ixodes obscurus was preoccupied and replaced by Ixodes nigricans in Neumann (1908), but the latter name is a synonym of Ixodes ricinus ( Camicas et al. 1998) .

Comments: the type host was not included in the original description, but named in Neumann (1908), where the name Ixodes obscurus was replaced by Ixodes nigricans .
