Type depositories: ZMB and ZSH?: syntypes (males and females) ( Walker et al. 2000)

Type locality: Damaraland , Namibia

Type host: Lepus timidus and cow

Comments: Neumann (1901) maintained that all specimens from his description of Rhipicephalus oculatus were deposited in the ZMB. Neumann (1901) also stated that one female tick was found at Kilosa, Tanzania, but Keirans et al. (1993) believed that this locality is incorrect for Rhipicephalus oculatus , adding that this specimen, which is lost, may, in fact, be Rhipicephalus pravus . Keirans et al. (1993) also said that from the five specimens Neumann (1901) used to describe this species, only a male and a female exist in the ZMB, numbers confirmed by Moritz & Fischer (1981).
