In: Pomerantzev, B.I., Matikashvili, N. V. & Lotozky, B. V. (1940) An ecological and faunistic outline of Ixodidae ticks occurring in Transcaucasia. Parazitologicheskii Sbornik, 7, 100–133. [in Russian, NAMRU-3 translation 51] Type depository: ZIAC: lectotype (male) and a paralectotype (female) ( Filippova 2008)

Type locality: Tashkent , Uzbekistan

Type host: Ovis aries

Comments: Walker et al. (2000) named Pomerantzev (1936) as the authority for Rhipicephalus turanicus . Walker et al. (2000) do not name a type depository for this species, but Rhipicephalus turanicus in Pomerantzev (1936) is a nomen nudum ( Filippova 1997). Camicas et al. (1998) gave the authority for this species as “Pomerantzev, B.I., Matikashvily, N.V. & Lotozky, B.V.”

Guglielmone et al. (2020) treated many records of Rhipicephalus turanicus around the world as speculative and maintained that several descriptions of this tick require confirmation. In that regard, Guglielmone et al. (2023) stated that the only bona fide specimens of this species are the type specimens from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, listed above.
