Type depository: BMNH: syntype (a female) ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001)

Type locality: Sudan

Type host: Hyaena sp.

Current status: a synonym of Rhipicephalus praetextatus ( Camicas et al. 1998, Walker et al. 2000).

Comments: Neumann (1902) described Rhipicephalus shipleyi from several adult ticks allegedly deposited in the BMNH, but only a female specimen is currently held there ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001).
