Solothrips lanceolatus sp. nov.

( Figs 1–12 View FIGURES 1–6 View FIGURES 7–12 )

Female macroptera. Body entirely blackish brown ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ); legs brown except for apex of tibiae and tarsi yellow; antennal segments I–II brown, III–IV yellow; V with basal half yellow and apex brown, VI–VIII entirely brown ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7–12 ); fore wings brown with white sub-basal area, clavus brown with a pale area ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Body setae clear.

Head wider than long, sculptured with strong reticulations, ocellar hump slightly elevated ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ); posterior dorsum smooth in anterior half and with transverse reticles on basal half; cheeks with a small swelling behind eyes and a pair of setae arise from the swelling. Ocellar setae I and II absent, III situated outside the ocellar triangle, five pairs of postocular setae well-developed; mouth cone broadly rounded; maxillary palps 3-segmented. Compound eyes with 4–6 pigmented facets ventrally. Antennal segment I without dorso-apical setae, III and IV pedicellate, III with a simple sense cone and IV with the sense cone forked ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7–12 ).

Pronotum round, distinctly sculptured with transverse reticulations; two pairs of posteroangular setae, inner setae slightly shorter than the outer one, about 30 discal setae and three pairs of posteromarginal setae, all setae lanceolated ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Mesonotum sculptured with strong reticulations, median pair of setae anterior to submedian setae pair, anterior pair of CPS present. Metanotum reticulated medially and striae laterally, median pair of setae lanceolate and situated behind the anterior margin, CPS present ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Prosternal ferna undivided, narrow at middle; basantra without setae; mesosternal endofurca with spinula (sometimes weak), metasternal endofurca without spinula ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Fore wing first vein with 5–7 basal setae, 1 median and 2 distal setae, second vein with 7–8 scattered setae; posterior fringe cilia wavy and apex acute; clavus with 4–5 veinal setae and one discal seta ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Tarsi 2-segmented.

Abdominal tergites without ctenidia and with a narrowly lobate craspeda ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ); tergite I completely sculptured with transverse anastomosing striae; tergites II–VIII with reticulate sculpture laterally, but smooth medially, submedian setae slightly longer than median setae ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ); VIII with posteromarginal comb completely, IX with two pair of CPS, X with incomplete median split ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–12 ); sternites without craspeda and discal setae, sternite II with 2 pairs posteromarginal setae, III–VII with 3 pairs of posteromarginal setae, VII with S1–S3 setae situated in front of the posterior margin ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ).

Measurements (holotype female in microns): Body length 987. Head, length 68; width 124. Pronotum, length 118; width 163; posteroangular setae length, inner 16, outer 18. Fore wing length 617. Antennal segments I–VIII length 19, 35, 43, 41, 33, 38, 5, 9.

Male macroptera. Similar to but smaller than female ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Abdominal tergite VIII with posteromarginal comb of long setae ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7–12 ), sternites V–VII each with a small transverse pore plate, without discal setae, S1–S3 setae on VIII situated in front of posterior margin ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 7–12 ).

Measurements (paratype male in microns): Body length 784. Head, length 65; width 117. Pronotum, length 105; width 144; posteroangular setae length, inner 14, outer 16. Fore wing length 452. Antennal segments I–VIII length 15, 30, 33, 35, 32, 33, 5, 7.

Specimens examined. Holotype female, CHINA, Yunnan Province,Bubeng Town(21°55′39′′N, 101°16′55′′E), from Lithocarpus grandifolius [ Fagaceae ], 24. iii. 2021, Liu Zhuo-cheng. Paratypes: 5 females, 8 males collected with holotype.

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the two pairs of lanceolate setae on the posterior angle of pronotum.

Comments. This new species can be easily distinguished by the dark brown body color, pronotum with two pairs of posteroangular setae, tergites II–VIII completely covered with irregular reticles laterally, and tergite X with an incomplete median split.
