Material: Two almost complete specimens (Nos. Ge 2235a–b). Maximal preserved length: 89 mm. Maximal diameter: 16 mm.
Description: Medium-sized, cylindrical rostrum, with a short apical region. Short and weakly developed dorsolateral apical grooves. Lateral lines developed as two shallow depressions.
Remarks: Te studied specimens match the description and illustration of Dumortier (1869).
Te overall shape of the described species is close to Passaloteuthis elegans ( Phillips, 1835) , whose prominent cylindrical rostrum is sharper posteriorly, accentuating the apical area and ending in an acute apex. Passaloteuthis armata has a conical rostrum with an indistinct apical part, ending in an acute apex.
Occurrence: Euroboreal species with an overlap to Western Tethys, preserved in the Pliensbachian of France ( Weis et al., 2018), Germany ( Schumann, 1974), Slovakia (Činčurová, 1991) and Czech Republic (this study; both Western Carpathians), Bulgaria ( Stoyanova-Vergilova, 1993); and possibly also in Dorset ( United Kingdom). In Normandy ( France; Weiss et al., 2018) it ranges from the Jamesoni up to the Margaritatus zones.
