6. Chelipoda macrostigma View in CoL sp. n.
[ Fig. 72 View FIGURES 71–75 ]
Type material. Holotype ♀: New Zealand, South Is. , FD, Fiordland National Park, S. Borland V. Biv., 730m, Malaise trap in Nothofagus forest, 2–6/ii/1982, JWE [ LUNZ].
Etymology: the specific epithet refers to the strongly developed wing stigma.
Description. Female: length 2.0mm.
Head: black, densely dusted grey. Eyes narrowly separated with frons almost parallel below antennal sockets. All setae black except pale 2–3 serial lpo; ocl slightly stronger than verticals which are arranged as inner ( vt1) and outer ( vt2) pairs, line of upo terminating between vt1 and vt2. Proboscis black. Palpi pale with dark apical seta. Antenna with scape very short, yellowish, bearing conspicuous black dorsal seta; pedicel brown, globular; postpedicel blackish, 1.7X as long as wide, arista 3.0–3.3X as long.
Thorax: ground colour black, pprnlb yellowish; uniformly dusted grey but mesonotum with indications of 3 narrow darker stripes anteriorly. Chaetotaxy difficult to determine on account of damage but all setae black, apparently similar to C. modica with pprn small and fine.
Legs: C 1 brown, paler basally; F 1 dark blackish brown, yellow apically; C 2 and C 3 brownish, rest of legs yellowish with apical tarsal segments dusky. C 1 0.8X as long as thorax, about 4.5X as long as wide with series of pale bristly hairs in front and a fine black posteroapical bristle separate from usual apical brush of fine pale hairs. F 1 about as long as C 1, strongly inflated, 2.6X as long as wide; ventrally about 4–6 av and 5–7 pv spines, 25 av and 15 pv denticles, all black; 1 large and 1 small basal bristle. T 1 0.8X length of F 1, armed ventrally with linear series of about 23 minute black adpressed denticles forming a ventral ridge with erect hairs in front and behind. Legs otherwise simple, short haired except for slightly stronger apical hairs and dorsal ciliation on F 3 and T 3.
Abdomen: brown, darker on segment 8 and distally; pregenital sternite (sternite 8) with long pointed process from posterior margin ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 71–75 ); terminal papillae rather short, dark brown with long hairs.
Wing: Similar to C. modica but veins black, membrane clear, stigma strongly developed black and oval, midway between apices of veins R 1 and R 2+3. Costa with a few stronger erect hairs amongst usual costal ciliation.
Male: the male is unknown.
Comments. C. macrostigma is in the C. modica -group with black thorax and yellow pprnlb, well developed stigma in the wing and a distinctive pointed process of the female pregenital sternite. It is known from a single female collected in February at 750 m in Nothofagus forest in the south west of the South Island.
