Metopolophium lacheni was described from Rubus sp. in Sikkim, India, as a subspecies of “ M. darjeelingense ” (sic) Raychaudhuri, MR Ghosh & Basu, which was actually described (from an unknown member of the Acanthaceae View in CoL ) by the name M. darjilingense ( Raychaudhuri et al. 1978) . Remaudière and Remaudière (1997) suggest that this should be regarded as a junior homonym of M. darjeelingensis L.K. Ghosh 1970 . M. darjilingense Raychaudhuri, MR Ghosh & Basu is of uncertain generic position, whereas the description and host of M. lacheni are appropriate for a member of the genus Metopolophium , and distinguish it sufficiently from darjilingense to justify separate species status.
