Conops kerteszi View in CoL was placed as Conops View in CoL s. str. by Smith (1980). This does not, however, fit KrÖber’s (1915 b: 46) original description in which he stated: “Stirnstrieme braunrot, schräg quergefurcht” (frons stripe brown-red, obliquely crossfurrowed). The species also does not correspond to any of the endemic Afrotropical Conops View in CoL s. str. because the original description states that it should have completely dusted genae (“Gruben und Wangenplatten rein silberweiss glänzend”) and no yellow veins (“Adern stark, schwärzlich”). The type of C. kerteszi View in CoL was in the HNHM and was probably destroyed in 1956 in the fire, and therefore Conops kerteszi View in CoL should be regarded nomen dubium.
