Hierbas anuales o perennes. Ócreas parduscas, de margen entero o ciliado. Inflorescencia espiciforme, densa o ± laxa ; brácteas generalmente inconspicuas. Perianto generalmente petaloideo. Estilos 2(3), largos, soldados en la base. Aquenios lenticulares, raramente trígonos.
