Subgen. III. Rumex
Plantas anuales, bienales o perennes. Hojas cuneadas, truncadas, redondeadas o cordadas en la base, nunca hastadas o sagitadas. Flores en su mayoría hermafroditas. Pedicelos filiformes o ± gruesos. Piezas del verticilo externo del perianto adpresas a las valvas, generalmente libres. Valvas más largas que el aquenio, libres, con o sin tubérculo en la base.
