status

sp. nov.

269. Ficus williamsii (Rusby) Rossberg. Repert. View in CoL Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 42: 61. 1937, nom. illeg., non Robinson (1908: 177). ≡ Urostigma williamsii Rusby. Bull. View in CoL New York Bot. Gard. 6(22): 499. 1910. TYPE:— BOLIVIA. La Paz: trail Ixiamas-Tumupasa , 29 December 1901, R. S. Williams 413 (lectotype, designated here: NY–285068!; isolectotype: K–000512028!). Remaining syntypes: BOLIVIA, Williams 420 (K–000512027!); Williams 146 (not found).

Nomenclatural notes:— Rusby (1910) described this taxon based on syntypes Williams 413, Williams 146, and Williams 420, and did not designate a holotype or herbarium. Berg & Villavicencio (2004) cited Williams 413 in NY as the “ holotype ”, but since this happened after 1 January 2001 and they did not use the term “designated here” or an equivalent statement as required by Art. 7.11, their citation did not constitute an effective designation of a lectotype. We designate Williams 413 (NY285068) as the lectotype because it represents the most complete and diagnostic specimen.
