180. Ficus obovata Pittier. Bol. Soc. Venez. Ci. Nat. View in CoL 4(30): 77. 1937, nom. illeg., non Griffith (1854: 390). TYPE:— VENEZUELA. Trujillo: near Escuque , 10 January 1929, H. Pittier 13128 (lectotype, designated here: VEN–368 [digital image!]; isolectotypes: A–00034527!, G–00438330 [digital image!], MO–204172!, PH–00014276!, SI–002709 [digital image!], US –00090171!).
Nomenclatural notes:— Pittier (1937) described this taxon based on Pittier 13128, but did not specify a herbarium, thus making all specimens of that gathering syntypes (ICN, Art. 40.2 Note 1). Berg (2009) cited a “ holotype ” at VEN, but since this happened after 1 January 2001 and he did not use the term “designated here” or an equivalent statement as required by Art. 7.11, his citation did not constitute an effective designation of a lectotype. We designate VEN368 as the lectotype because it represents the most complete and diagnostic specimen.
