Nomenclatural notes:— Miquel (1848) described this taxon based on a Martius collection but did not specify a herbarium. Berg & Villavicencio (2004) first cited Martius s.n. in M as the type. There are two sheets of Martius s.n. in M. We designate M0275047 because it represents the most complete and diagnostic specimen.
