Polyrhachis (Myrmhopla) sexspinosa Latr. var. sericea Karawajew, 1927: 26 , Fig. 13, w, q, m.
Current status: junior synonym of Polyrhachis sexspinosa ( Latreille, 1802) : 126. Synonymy: Bolton 1975: 12.
Type locality(-ies): “Wammar, Aru, 24. III. 1913 (Nr. 2642), ww, geflüg. gg und mm”.
Original Karawajew labels: 1 w, “ Wammar, / Aru. 2671. / Karavaiev ”, “ Polyrhachis / (Myrmhopla) / sexspinosa Latr. / v. sericea Karav. / typus”, “ Syntypus Polyrhachis / sexspinosa var. / sericea Kar.” ; 3 g, “ Wammar, / Karawajew, / 2642”, “ Syntypus Polyrhachis / sexspinosa var. / sericea Kar.” ; 1 m, “ Wammar, / Karavaiev, / 2642”, “ Syntypus Polyrhachis / sexspinosa var. / sericea Kar.”, “mirmitophor!”
Material: SYNTYPES, 1 w (CASENT0917271), 3 g (CASENT0917272), 1 m (CASENT0917273) (Box 38).
Note. Karawajew (1927) in the original description gave number 2462 for the type series of this taxon, while a single worker collected in the type locality is numbered 2671 in the collection. However, it has the original Karawajew label “ Polyrhachis / (Myrmhopla) / sexspinosa Latr. / v. sericea Karav. / typus”. We assume that Karawajew did not indicate all collection numbers when describing this taxon, but since this specimen is fully consistent with other syntype workers, and based on Recommendation 72B of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999), we conclude this specimen belongs to the type series.
