Polyrhachis (Chariomyrma) abrupta Karawajew, 1927: 19 View in CoL , Fig 10, w.
Current status: junior synonym of Polyrhachis limbata Emery, 1897: 585 . Synonymy: Kohout 1998: 512 (junior primary homonym of Polyrhachis abrupta Mayr, 1867: 62 ; replacement name: Polyrhachis (Chariomyrma) verticalis Santschi, 1928: 139 ).
Type locality(-ies): “Wammar, Aru, 16. III. 1913 (Nr. 2586), 4 w”.
Original Karawajew labels: 2 w, “ Wamman, / Aru. 2596. / Karavaiev ”, “ Polyrhachis / (Chariomyrma) / verticalis Sant. / n. nov. typus”, “ Paratypus / Polyrhachis / verticalis Santschi ” .
Material: SYNTYPES, 2 w (CASENT0917182) (Box 36).
Note. Karawajew (1927) in the original description gave number 2586 to the type series of this species. However, two workers collected at the type locality are numbered 2596 in the collection. These bear the original Karawajew label “ Polyrhachis / (Chariomyrma) / verticalis Sant. / n. nov. typus”. We may assume that there is a misprint either in the article or on the label. But since these specimens are fully consistent with other syntype workers, and based on Recommendation 72B of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999), we conclude these specimens belong to the type series.
