Etymology.
The generic name derives from the Latin ‘ fortis ’ and ‘ gryllus ’, in reference to a strong-legged cricket.
Locality and age.
Mid-Cretaceous (late Albian / early Cenomanian); amber from Kachin State, northern Myanmar.
Diagnosis.
Mesonotum and metanotum well-developed, not covered by pronotum. Forelegs, midlegs and hindlegs nearly equal in length and robustness. Femora of three pairs of legs exceptionally stout. Protibia with two apical spurs, meso- and metatibia with one apical spur. Metatibia bare without spines and subapical spurs, hind basitarsus elongate. Club-shaped and filiform setae on inner basal cerci.
