Records: German–Israeli project. New to Israel.

General distribution: Palaeotropical. Widespread in Africa, India, Sri Lanka.

Distribution in Israel: Arava Valley and Dead Sea area.

Period of flight in Israel: November–January.

Host plants: Poaceae : Sorghum sp., Oryza sativa , Pennisetum americanum and

Zea mays . Remarks: Loxostege fredi Amsel, 1961 , described from Afghanistan, was syno­

nymized with A. coelatalis by Shaffer and Munroe (2007). Achyra coelatalis is often recorded as Achyra massalis (Walker, 1859) , a sibling species apparently confined to the Australian Region ( Shaffer & Munroe 2007).
