Bahia: “in sylvis Catingas inter Sincora et Maracas, in locis aridis”, November, C.F.P. von Martius Obs. 1983 (holotype, M 0089096! [photo F 6596!], M 00899095!, M 00899097!; isotype, G 00434458!).
Croton betulaster is a shrubby species that occurs in Brazil, mainly in the state of Bahia, ranging from 700 to 1800 m elevation. This species is found in Caatinga and Cerrado domains, typically growing on sandy soils between rocks.
Notes:— The holotype of Croton betulaster consists of a single specimen mounted on three herbarium sheets. Label data associated with the cited collections (M 00899095, M 0089096, M 00899097) indicate that they belong to the same specimen. Furthermore, the specimen M 0089096 shows morphological characteristics that most accurately represent the species.
