Artbeschreibung: 20-150 cm hoch, +/- kahl. Stängel früh rot verfärbt. Blätter bis 20 cm lang. Blütenstand hellgrün, wenig verzweigt, mit steif aufrechten Seitenästen. Vorblätter der weiblichen Blüten 4-5(-8) mm lang, derb, stechend, ca. 2mal so lang wie die Perigonblätter. Frucht eine sich öffnende Deckelkapsel.
