Steleops similis sp. nov.

( Figs 186–192 View FIGURES 186–192 )

Diagnosis. Like Steleops elegans , but unlike this it presents the hypandrium with apical lobe under a group of lateral spines ( Fig. 191 View FIGURES 186–192 ) and epiproct with a pair of preapical teeth on the anterior processes ( Fig. 189 View FIGURES 186–192 ).

Male. Color (on plate and 80% ethanol). Head ( Fig. 188 View FIGURES 186–192 ) with “Y”-shaped spot from the base of the compound eyes to the labrum, genae cream and front pale brown. Black compound eyes with cream space between the ommatidia. Thorax, cream with dark brown scutum. Forewings ( Fig. 186 View FIGURES 186–192 ) with dark brown spots and brown veins. Hindwings ( Fig. 180 View FIGURES 179–185 ) hyalines, veins brown. Smoked epiproct and paraprocts.

Morphology. As in diagnosis, plus the following: Head with one third of the eyes projected above the vertex; vertex V–shaped wide, below upper level of compound eyes, emarginate, with broad mesal sulcus ( Fig. 189 View FIGURES 186–192 ): H/ MxW: 1.10; compound eyes large, H/D: 1.42; IO/MxW: 0.78. Outer cusp of lacinial tips with three short denticles; Mx4/Mx2: 2.33. Forewings ( Fig. 186 View FIGURES 186–192 ): L/W: 2.54. Pterostigma: lp/wp: 2.78, areola postica: al/ah: 1.501. Hindwings ( Fig. 187 View FIGURES 186–192 ): l/w: 2.82. Hypandrium asymmetrical, left area with long sclerotized teeth, apically with elongated process and rounded apical margin ( Fig. 191 View FIGURES 186–192 ). Right area distally shorter than the left area, with setose fields or with short teeth. Phallosome symmetrical ( Fig. 192 View FIGURES 186–192 ), with broad phallobase, external parameres curved inwards, with external margin with spines and fused to sides of aedeagal arch, these separated apically. Epiproct bilobed ( Fig. 189 View FIGURES 186–192 ) projected on the clunium, distally with two long acuminate anterior projections. Paraprocts ( Fig. 190 View FIGURES 186–192 ) oval, with short apical process, gently curved and apically rounded, sensory fields with 20 trichobothria on basal rosettes.

Measurements (microns). FW: 2600, HW: 1975, F: 550, T: 1175, t1: 425, t2: 100, ctt1: 23, f1: 400, f2: 320, f3: 290, f4: 210, f5: 160, f6: 150, f7: 120, f8: 110, f9: 100, f10: 90, f11: 70, Mx4: 140, IO: 380, d: 370, D: 380, IO/d: 1.03, PO: 0.97
