Xizicus (Haploxizicus) carinicaudatus sp. nov., Chinese name: ỄAEDZadz

( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 )

Description. Male. Body small. Head. Fastigium verticis conical, with longitudinal sulcus on dorsum, apex rounded. Eyes ovoid, protruding forwards and outwards. Apical segment of maxillary palpus faintly longer than subapical one, apical area slightly inflated. Thorax. Anterior margin of pronotum straight, posterior margin rounded, metazona slightly raised; lateral lobe longer than high, humeral sinus obvious ( Fig. 3A–B View FIGURE 3 ).

Tegmina and wings. Tegmina long, surpassing apices of hind femora, apices rounded; hind wings longer than tegmina. Legs. All femora without spines on ventral surfaces. Fore coxa with 1 spine, fore tibial tympana open on both sides, fore and middle tibiae with 4 pairs of long spines and 1 pair of short apical spurs on ventral surfaces respectively. Hind tibia with 22–24 short spines on both sides of dorsal surface separately, bearing 1 pair of dorsal apical spurs and 2 pairs of ventral apical spurs.

Abdomen. Tenth abdominal tergite slightly extending backwards, posterior margin feebly concave. Basal half of cercus stout; apical half depressed, slightly incurved, dorsal surface near inner margin with a longitudinal carina; apex obliquely truncate ( Fig. 3C–E View FIGURE 3 ). Subgenital plate with base broad, narrowing, apical area narrow, posterior margin rounded. Styli short, conical, inserted on lateral margins of subapical area of subgenital plate ( Fig. 3F View FIGURE 3 ).

Female. Cercus conical. Ovipositor moderately upcurved; dorsal valve slightly longer than ventral one, apex acute; base of ventral valve with a semicircular expansion on ventral surface, followed with a triangular lamellar expansion, apex hook-shaped ( Fig. 3H View FIGURE 3 ). Subgenital plate narrow at base, middle area broad, apical half narrowing, apex upcurved ( Fig. 3G View FIGURE 3 ).

Coloration. Body yellowish green. Tegmina with brown spots. Dorsal surface of head with 4 indistinct longitudinal dark brown stripes. Disc of pronotum with a broad longitudinal brown stripe from prozona to anterior area of metazona, lateral margins dark brown, posterior area of metazona brown. Genicular lobes of hind femur dark brown. Spines and spurs of hind tibia dark brown.

Material examined. Holotype: ♂, Jiguanshan, Chongzhou , Sichuan, 28 September, 2021, collected by Gaoping Liu. Paratypes: 2♂ 2♀, same data as holotype . Other specimens: 4♂, Jiguanshan, Chongzhou , Sichuan, 28 September, 2021, collected by Gaoping Liu ; 1♂, Yinshan, Jinxiu , Guangxi, 11 August, 2018, collected by Qidi Zhu ; 1♂, Yangmeiao, Huanjiang , Guangxi, 6 September, 2024, collected by Yang Wang.

Measurements (mm). Body length: ♂ 9.5–9.8, ♀ 10.6–10.8; pronotum length: ♂ 3.5–3.7, ♀ 3.5–3.8; tegmen length: ♂ 15.3–15.6, ♀ 15.9–16.2; hind femur length: ♂ 8.0–8.2, ♀ 8.1–8.3; ovipositor length: 6.1–6.3.

Discussion. The new species is similar to Xizicus (Haploxizicus) szechwanensis ( Tinkham, 1944) , but differs in the following: male cercus with basal half stout, apical half depressed, slightly incurved, bearing a longitudinal carina near inner margin of dorsal surface; apex obliquely truncate. Female subgenital plate narrow at base, middle area broad, apical half narrowing, apex upcurved; base of ventral valve with a semicircular expansion on ventral surface, followed with a triangular lamellar expansion.

Etymology. The new species name is derived from apical half of male cercus with a longitudinal carina on dorsal surface near inner area, Latin carin- means carina, caudatus means caudate.

Distribution. China (Sichuan, Guangxi).
