This variety was originally described by Maire (1938: 446) from the Southwestern Sahara as a variety of Salsola vermiculata Linnaeus (1753: 223) View in CoL . Later Maire (1962: 158) transfered this taxon to S. foetida View in CoL . SANBI (2012) also listed it under Caroxylon imbricatum View in CoL . We have not succeeded in detecting any original material, but according to the protologue it comes closer to S. vermiculata View in CoL or to S. flavescens Cavanilles (1796: 45) View in CoL , a questionable segregate of S. vermiculata View in CoL . Further studies are required.
