Eugamandus oakleyi Fisher 1935:57 View in CoL .
Eugamandus brunneus Fisher 1935:58 , new synonymy
Type locality: Of E. oakleyi, Matrullas Dam , near Orocovis, Puerto Rico; E. brunneus , Yauco, Puerto Rico.
Both of these species were described from single specimens. Describing E. brunneus , the author writes, ‘‘This species is very closely allied to oakleyi Fisher , but it differs from that species in being much smaller and more slender, and in having the tubercles on each elytron arranged in two longitudinal rows’’ ( Fisher 1935). The two types were examined and compared with a series of 45 Eugamandus specimens from various localities in Puerto Rico. Within this series there is considerable variation in size, and in the arrangement and size of the elytral tubercles. Larger specimens usually have stronger tubercles; smaller specimens seem more slender. No correlation between specimen size and the arrangement of tubercles could be observed, and we consider these specimens to represent a single taxon.
