Antilleptostylus nigricans ( Fisher 1935:55) View in CoL .
Styloleptus puertoricensis ( Fisher 1935:56) , new synonymy
Type locality: Of A. nigricans , Villalba, Puerto Rico ; S. puertoricensis , Adjuntas, Puerto Rico .
Gilmour (1963) transferred Leptostylus puertoricensis Fisher to Styloleptus Dillon and erected Antilleptostylus for Leptostylus nigricans Fisher based on sculpturing of the pronotum and elytra, and the relative width of the prosternal process (3: 4), when compared to coxal cavity. Apparently, he did not examine the type specimen of L. puertoricensis , or he would have noticed its distinct similarity to the type of L. nigricans . Both species were described from unique specimens. Type-specimens of the two taxa were examined and found to have similar pronotal and elytral sculpture, including the unique elytral, post-basal, setose tubercles; the proportional width of the prosternal process is similar also. Additionally, the two types were compared with a series of 41 additional specimens from Puerto Rico within which the putative type differences are encompassed. Within this series, the relative width of the male prosternal process to the width of a procoxal cavity varies from 1: 3 to 1: 2, while in females the proportion is 1: 2 to 3: 4.
