Styloleptus biustus biustus ( LeConte 1852:169) View in CoL .
Lethes israeli Zayas 1975:257 , new synonymy
Type locality: Of S. b. biustus , ‘‘ southern and middle states’ ’; L. israeli , Sierra de Cristal, Oriente, Cuba .
The figure of Lethes israeli , (32d), in Zayas (1975) leaves no doubt that it is a synonym of one of the common color varieties of what formerly was called Styloleptus minuens Hamilton (in Leng & Hamilton, 1896:121), now considered a synonym of S. b. biustus . This widespread Caribbean species exhibits extremely variable dorsal coloration and patterning, with the the overall dorsal pubescence ranging in coloration from light tan to cinereous, and the dark elytral maculations varying from small fasciae to large patches, often covering much of the centrobasal portion of the disk.
