Notes
Perlidae are commonly referred to as the Stones ( Stark et al. 1998, Stark et al. 2012). Nine genera and 18 species are known from the state. Stark (2004) provided the most recent review of the taxonomy of this family in eastern North America, but several species have been described during the past 20 + years and most notably in Perlesta (e. g., Kondratieff and Myers 2011). Stark (2017) presented larval keys to a limited number of species known from the southeastern USA, many of which are known from New York State. Adults have been collected in New York from early May through mid-September (Fig. 33 View Figure 33 ) at elevations ranging from 0-821 m asl (Fig. 34 View Figure 34 ). Acroneuria kosztarabi , Eccoptura xanthenes , and Neoperla coosa appear to be restricted to lower elevations in the state (Fig. 34 View Figure 34 ). Species known from smaller streams and rivers of higher elevations include Acroneuria carolinensis , Agnetina capitata , Hansonoperla appalachia , and Paragnetina immarginata .
