Triplaris americana Rottb. View in CoL (1776: 274, t.3), nom. illeg. superfl.
Notes:— Rottbøll (1776: 274) cited Triplaris pyramidalis Jacq. as a synonym of his T. americana . Since the name T. pyramidalis was validly published, Rottbøll’s T. americana is superfluous and illegitimate according to Art. 52.1 of ICBN. However, Rottbøll’s name is also a later homonym of Linnaeus’s name and, therefore, illegitimate also under the Art. 53.1 of ICBN. Additionally, the type of Rottbøll’s T. americana is that of Jacquin’s T. pyramidalis (see above for type designation). This is in contrast to the opinion of Moraes et al. (2010) who considered the type of T. americana Rottb. to be connected to a specimen at C (C 10017414).
