Medinilla dallmannensis Kaneh. & Hatus. ex Ohwi, Bot. Mag (Tokyo) View in CoL 57: 11. 1943, syn. nov. Type: INDONESIA, New Guinea, [Papua province], 45 km inward of Nabire, Dallmann , 400 m, 01.03.1940, R. Kanehira & S. Hatusima 12107 (holo FU n.v.; iso A [ A00064193 ], BO [BO-1769430]).

Distribution: Endemic to New Guinea ( Bakhuizen van den Brink, 1943; Ohwi, 1943).

Notes: The original type for M. auriculata , stored in the herbarium of the Botanische Garten Berlin-Dahlem (B), was destroyed during the Second World War. Therefore a lectotype is chosen here from the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO). Medinilla dallmanensis is here considered as a synonym of M. auriculata .
