59. Medinilla curtisii Hook.f., Gard. Chron. View in CoL , n.s., 20: 621, f. 108. 1883. Type: INDONESIA, Sumatra, [West Sumatra province], C. Curtis s.n. (holo K [ K000867267 ]) .
Distribution: Endemic to Sumatra ( Bakhuizen van den Brink, 1943).
Notes: Maxwell (1978) stated that the distribution of this species extended to southern Thailand. However, collections from southern Thailand represent M. elliptica Craib , a different species with much more compact inflorescences, and therefore, the distribution of M. curtisii is restricted to West Sumatra. The correct author for this species is J.D. Hooker who described it from the living collection provided by Messrs. Veitch Nursery and originally collected by C. Curtis from Western Sumatra ( Hooker, 1883; Cogniaux, 1891; Bakhuizen van den Brink, 1943).
