Medinilla myrtiformis var. papuana Baker f., Trans. Linn. Soc. London, Bot. 9(1): 52, pl. 2, fig. 28–33. 1916. Medinilla monantha var. papuana (Baker f.) Mansf., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. View in CoL 60: 122. 1925. Type: INDONESIA, New Guinea, [Papua province, Jayawijaya Mts.], Utakwa River to Mt. Cartensz , Camp 6b, January 1913, C.B. Kloss s.n. (holo BM [ BM000796103 ]) .

Medinilla monantha var. subuninervis Mansf., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 60: 123. 1925. Lectotype (designated by Veldkamp, 1979: 448): PAPUA NEW GUINEA, New Guinea, [West Sepik province], Sepigebiet, Felsspitze , 1400–1500 m, 11.08.1913, C.L. Ledermann 12807 (B†; isolecto L [ L 0484347 ]).

Distribution: Endemic to New Guinea ( Veldkamp, 1979).
