Lectotype (designated here): INDONESIA, Sumatra, [North Sumatra province], Berastagi, February 1921, H.N. Ridley s.n. (K [ K000867266 ], designated here).
Distribution: Endemic to Sumatra ( Ridley, 1923).
Note: Ridley (1923) did not mention which specimen he used for the type of Medinilla micrantha . The specimen at K collected by Ridley from Berastagi, North Sumatra, with his original handwriting of M. micrantha is chosen here as the lectotype. Since the name was a homonym of M. micrantha Jum. & H.Perrier ( Jumelle & Perrier de la Bâthie, 1913) , a new name M. berastagiensis is proposed here.
