Lectotype (designated here): PAPUA NEW GUINEA, New Guinea, [Western Highlands province], Bismarck Mts. , 2400 m, 14.11.1908, F.R.R. Schlechter 18743 (K [ K000867455 ]; isolecto A [ A00072479 ], K [ K000867456 ], NY [ NY00228889 ]).
Distribution: Endemic to New Guinea ( Mansfeld, 1925).
Notes: The original type of M. schlechteri (Schlechter 18743) at the Herbarium Berlin ( B) was not found and assumed lost during the Second World War. Several duplicates were seen in several herbaria and the most complete specimen from Herbarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ( K) chosen as a lectotype here .
