Like 1 but whole plant densely crystallinepapillose; leaves spathulate to broadly ovate, flat; petals longer than sepals. Maritime sands and salt-marshes. Mediterranean region extending to Portugal. BI Co Cr Ga Gr Hs It Ju Lu Sa Si [Az].
A species of Drosanthemum (a genus very closely related to Mesembryanthemum ), D. candens (Haw.) Schwantes , Zeitschr. Sukkulentenk. 3: 30 (1927), with procumbent stems, not rooting freely at the nodes, almost cylindrical leaves c. 1 cm long, covered with papillae, and pure white petals that are longer than the sepals, is naturalized locally in Portugal, S.W. England and the Açores.
