Like 38 but dioecious, with more or less procumbent nonflowering shoots and short erect flowering stems to 30 cm; inflorescence sub-capitate; calyx 4-5 x 3-5^4 mm, inflated, more or less puberulent, often purplish. • Mountains o f S. Albania, S. Jugoslavia and N. Greece. Al G r Ju. 38, 39 and 40 seem very similar and might be treated as subspecies of a single species, but there is insufficient information.
