Perennating by tubers produced on the ends of slender stolons. Leaves 20-50 cm, orbicular-peltate, prominently veined beneath, margins undulate and spinous-dentate. Flowers open at night. Petals 12-25, white, purplish beneath. Sepals conspicuously white-veined. Hot springs in N. W. Romania. Rm. (Egypt, tropical Africa and Asia.)
