Occurrence: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom (WPC 2023).

Known localities in Hungary: Bátorliget Swamp ( Mahnert 1983). Cserépváralja: Karud Hillside ( Novák 2012). Szin: Szelcepuszta (Novák 2018).

New data: Bátorliget: from stable, 05.10.1990, leg. OM (HNHM Pseud-1718: 4♂, 6♀) ; Dabas (Sári): 09.05.1977, leg. LÁ, MH (HNHM Pseud-1828: 1♀) ; Fazekas-Dencs: 01.02.1922, leg. MV (HNHM Pseud-1669: 5 adults) ; Ócsa: under the bark of Populus x canadensis, 30.10.1952. leg. ZKA (HNHM Pseud-1562: 1♂) .

Habitat preference: Allochernes powelli is regarded for a synanthropic species, occurring in barn and stable refuse, as well as in leaf litter and soil ( Beier 1963a; Legg & Jones 1988). In Slovakia, it was collected by pitfall-trap in a xerotherm oak forest ( Christophoryová et al. 2011e). In Hungary, it has been found in decaying wood in an oak forest ( Novák 2012), and in debris of a horse stable (Novák 2018). During the present study, it was found in stable, and under the bark of Populus x canadensis.

Remarks: Allochernes powelli was first recorded from Hungary by Mahnert (1983), from the Bátorliget Swamp. Subsequently, new records have been found from other parts of the country ( Novák 2012, 2018).
