Type species: Lucaina schini Duges, 1879 (by monotypy).

Differential diagnosis: Lucaina and closely related Macrolygistopterus ( Fig. 1A View Figure 1 ) share the rostrate head and they differ in the shape of the apical part of parameres ( Fig. 5N – O View Figure 5 ) and the long erect setae in the elytra of Lucaina . These genera have a vicariant distribution (Figs S8, S9, Supporting Information). Caloptognatha has similar setae in the elytra, but does not have the prolonged rostrum and has long, slender mandibles ( Green, 1954). Lygistopterus is another genus distributed in the Nearctic region and differs by its wide, parallel-sided parameres.
Distribution: USA: California, Arizona; Mexico.
