Metapocyrtus striatus Heller 1912

The species described by Heller is indicated in the original description ( Heller, 1912: 364) as Metapocyrtus strictus . This would have been the valid and available name, but in the same work (op. cit: 353), in the dichotomous keys to the genus Metapocyrtus s. s., at couplet l 2 Heller provides a brief description of the taxon, clearly indicating the name as striatus . Schultze (1916: 135) can be considered the First Reviser under ICZN article 32.2.1 and adopted striatus as the valid spelling, ‘ strictus ’ being an incorrect original spelling ( IOS), most likely a publisher’s typo.

The species is widely distributed on the island of Romblon, from which a long series of specimens was obtained, and it is stable as far as the pattern is concerned. The species is also common on the island of Tablas, however, showing differences so consistent from the topotypic populations as to deserve the status of subspecies described below.
