Description.

Stems 80–95 cm, glabrous, smooth. Leaves 1.4–4 mm wide, grayish green, flat, margin rolled, adaxially rigid, abaxially slightly rough or glabrous. Sheath glabrous, smooth. Ligule to 1 mm. Spikes upright, rarely slightly drooping. Spikelets solitary along axis of spikes. Internodes of spike short hairy. Glumes almost equal, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, with awn to 3 mm. Lemma lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, slightly rough or glabrous, apex acute, with awn to 2 mm. Palea narrowly lanceolate, margins short ciliate. Anthers 3.5–4.5 mm (Fig. 11 View Figure 11 ). 2 n = 56 ( Tzvelev 1976).

Phenology.

Flowering and fruiting: June-August.

Habitat.

On rocky slopes, cliffs, and pebbles in middle and upper mountain belts, 1700–2400 m.

General distribution.

Eastern and southern Transcaucasia, Iran, Turkey, Middle Asia (Tian Shan, Pamir-Alay: Hissar, Darvaz Ranges): Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
