Spatulicraspeda castaneiceps was described from a male and a female specimen collected in Sri Lanka by Mr E.E. Green.The description was included in volume 9 of the Illustrations, but before the volume was published, Hampson redescribed the species from the same two specimens in the combination Spatulifimbria castaneiceps , this later description was published first in the Fauna of British India volume, with the generic name Spatulicraspeda in the synonymy of Spatulifimbria . Spatulicraspeda castaneiceps is a junior objective synonym of Spatulifimbria castaneiceps , and Spatulicraspeda is a junior objective synonym of Spatulifimbria (Fletcher & Nye 1982) .
