Fruit a legume, dehiscent, orbicular, without a protuberance, slightly inflated, inflated–compressed, 3.4 × 2.5 cm, sessile, nectary disc not persistent, glabrous, glands present, veins present, not winged.

Phenology —Collected in flower between June and August and in fruit between January and March.

Distribution and habitat— Peltogyne floribunda is an Amazonian species found in high-altitude areas of Venezuela and Guyana. In Brazil, its occurrence is restricted to Roraima, on the border with Venezuela ( Fig 5 View FIGURE 5 ).

Taxonomic comments— Peltogyne floribunda has no stipe, which is rare in the Hymenaea clade. This species is similar to P.parvifolia , but differs by the decurrent blade of the leaflet, a dilated pulvinus, and the absence of hypanthium. P. parvifolia has a non-decurrent blade, a non-dilated pulvinus, and an obconic hypanthium. Adolfo Ducke (1922) recombined Hymenaea floribunda in the genus Peltogyne , using the name P. floribunda [Hayne (1830:11) Getreue Darstell. Gew. xi. t. 7. (1856) (Holotype: Illustration t.7) Benth (= P. floribunda (H.B.K) Benth)], on which occasion he recognized J.G. Kuhlmann’s collection (RB! 3860) as identical to the description of H. floribunda . However, only four years later, Pittier (1926) published the appropriate description for P. floribunda . Based on the principle of priority, the name adopted by Ducke is the correct one.

Etymology—floribundus, flowers in abundance.
