Aplysina fistularis View in CoL
The neotype being dried there are no sequences of it. Several genes from specimens presumably originating from the Caribbean (but no localities were provided) were sequenced by Nichols (2005), e.g. GenBank accession nrs AY561864 View Materials (28SrRNA) and AY561987 View Materials ( COI), the vouchers of which were deposited in the collection of the University of California Museum of Paleontology, Berkeley, USA .
28S, 5.8S and ITS rRNA sequences were obtained by Erwin & Thacker (2007) (GenBank accession nrs. DQ411435 View Materials –9) from a specimen from the Bahamas. The 28SrRNA sequences did not show close similarity with those of Nichols (2005), apparently because different domains were sequenced.
18SrRNA sequences were obtained by Lavrov et al. 2008 (GenBank accession nr. EU702410 View Materials ), locality not specified, and by Redmond et al. (2013) from a specimen from the Bahamas (GenBank accession nr. KC902180 View Materials ), both matching closely (99% similar).
