( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 )

Type-locality: Leopoldo de Bulhões, Goiás State, Brazil. Length: 8.8 mm.

Coloration: Crown light brown; discal region with a pair of transverse maculae near apex, a pair of thin transverse lines along midwidth, and a pair of subtriangular maculae near posterior margin, dark brown ( Fig. 1AB View FIGURE 1 ); frontal region with a thin dark brown transverse line between ocelli. Frons with 6 pairs of transverse curved lines, dark brown; macula over midlength, dark brown; posterolateral angles and posterior region, dark brown. Clypellus dark brown. Lorum light brown, with margins dark brown. Pronotum light brown, anterior third with a pair of faint orange irregular maculae near eyes and a pair of transverse dark brown lines near midlength; posterior two-thirds with several dark brown maculae ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Mesonotum light brown; scutum with a pair of dark brown maculae on lateral margins near anterior angles; scutellum apical half dark brown, with a white macula near apex ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 ). Forewings light brown, with several dark brown spots over the surface; clavus with two large irregular white maculae; corium with several irregular white maculae over the surface; apical cells white, with margins dark brown; reflexed costal veinlets dark brown ( Figs. 3A–B View FIGURE 3 ). Legs and abdomen light brown, with several dark brown maculae. Female abdominal sternite VII light brown, with dark brown macula over midlength.

External morphology: Head short; crown not produced anteriorly; coronal suture extending beyond midlength of crown; frontal region upturned; texture of anterior margin of head transversely striate; lateral frontal suture touching outer lateral margin of ocellus ( Fig. 1A–C View FIGURE 1 ). Clypellar suture arcuate ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ). Lorum wider than clypellus near base ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ). Forewing outer anteapical cell apex truncate; with reflexed costal veins ( Fig. 1A–B View FIGURE 1 ). Profemur row AV with 10 macrosetae. Other characters as in the generic description.

Male genitalia: male unknown.

Female terminalia: Pygofer higher than long, dorsoposterior angle slightly acute in lateral view, caudoventral margin widely rounded in lateral view; with several rows of macrosetae on apical half ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE 1 ). Abdominal sternite VII lateral margins slightly convex; shallow concavity along midlength; posterior margin irregular, with a deep median V-shaped incision (the sternite VII appears to be damaged) ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ). Internal abdominal sternite VIII membranous. Valvifer I higher than long in lateral view; anterior margin rounded; without setae ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ). Valvulae I convex in lateral view ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ). Valvulae II, in lateral view, with 4 to 5 not continuous primary sub-rectangular teeth on dorsal margin near apex; apex of valvulae rounded, forming a lobe ( Fig. 1G View FIGURE 1 ).

Notes: Megabahita gigantea can be distinguished primarily by its size, which is 8.8 mm in length, while the other species of the genus range from 5.7 to 7.7 mm (males and females). This species can be distinguished from the other known females by the abdominal sternite VII with a median V-shaped incision, not reaching midlength.
