REMARKS
Greville (1826: expl.pl.220) attributed the name to “Carmichael MSS”. Captain Dugald [Dughall] Carmichael (1772-1827) was a Scottish surgeon-solider-adventurer and friend of Robert Brown (1773-1858); Carmichael retired to Ardtur, Appin, about 1817, spending much of his time studying the local algae and communicating many of his discoveries to his contemporaries.
